Detention Officer
Full-Time Position
Salary: $14.92 per hour
Open until filled

Applicants must pass a physical agility test, a written test and also an interview board.

Requirements: Must have a high school diploma or equivalent (GED); speak, read and write reports, operate transport vehicles; supervise detained and other persons; engage in physical activities. Included bailiff duties are; arraignments; court arrests; prisoner security; inmate extradition and criminal, civil and all other court hearings. Applicant must be a licensed peace officer and be at least 21 years of age. Must possess a current Texas Driver’s license and have two (2) years experience as Certified Peace Officer with at least 1 year employment with the Victoria County Sheriff’s Office.


Maintenance Officer
Salary: $14.92 per hour
Closing Date: April 9, 2010

General Statement of Duties:  Two (2) years of full-time paid employment as a maintenance worker with a valid Texas Driver’s License.  Duties include performing a wide variety of maintenance activities to improve the functioning and appearance of the facility; to repair plumbing, electrical, structural, heating and cooling systems of the building.  Also must assist with painting, plastering and perform light construction duties.  The applicant must be able to communicate both orally and in writing, be a US citizen and at least 21 years of age.  The applicant will be subject to a background check conducted by the Victoria County Sheriff’s Office and will submit to a drug screen prior to beginning employment.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:   Knowledge of:   English usage, spelling and grammar.  General knowledge of Microsoft Word and Power Point are encouraged.  Speak, Write, and Read Reports and Comprehend Other Documents.  Pass the VCSO physical agility course.


Courts/Extradition Officer
Salary: $19.33 per hour
