Organizations & Commissions
Victoria County Commissioners Court appoints members to serve on various boards and commissions.  Boards marked with an * signify the positions may not be available for appointment and the Commissioners' Court does not have sole representation or control of the board or commission. 

More detail regarding each board and commission is found below.  If you are interested in serving on one of our boards and commissions, you may apply by completing the Board and Commission Application and returning it to the County Judge's Office at 101 N. Bridge St, Rm 102, Victoria, Texas 77901.

Boards and Commission Application

  • The Animal Shelter Advisory Committee is established through Government Code 823.005 (a). The governing body of a county in which an animal shelter is located shall appoint an advisory committee to assist in complying with the requirements.  It must be composed of at least one licensed veterinarian, one county or municipal official, one person whose duties include the daily operation of an animal shelter, and one representative from an animal welfare organization. The advisory committee shall meet at lease three times a year.

  • The Victoria County Historical Commission (VCHC) is created and assumes the duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Texas Local Government Code, Chapter 318.  The purpose of the Victoria County Historical Commission shall be to initiate and conduct such programs as may be suggested by the Victoria County Commissioners Court, the Texas Historical Commission, interested Commission members and citizens for the preservation of the historical heritage of Victoria County.  The officers of the Victoria County Historical Commission shall be a chairman, vice chairman, secretary and treasurer.  Their term shall be for two (2) years.

  • The Victoria County Child Welfare Board is established through Texas Family Code §264.005. It is an entity of the Department of Family and Public Services for the purposes of providing coordinated state and local public welfare services for children and their families and for the coordinated use of federal, state, and local funds for these services.  The Commissioners' Court appoints county residents to serve three (3) year terms.

  • The Victoria Public Library Advisory Board is governed by the bylaws adopted June 23, 1977.  It's purpose is to develop and establish library policies, review budgets, and act as a liaison between the City and County. 

    It is composed of ten (10) members selected as follows:

    1. Four (4) members appointed by the City Council;
    2. Four (4) members appointed by the County Commissioners Court;
    3. One (1) member will be either the President or designate of the Friends of the Public Library, a Texas non-profit corporation;
    4. One (1) member will be the President or designate of the Bronte Club, a Texas non-profit corporation. 

    The members serve three (3) year terms.

  • The Victoria County Health Department Board is established through Local Public Health Reorganization Act 121.041.  Public Health Board 121.034 (a).

    The operation of the Health Department shall be over-seen by an advisory Board of Health.  This Board of Health shall consist of nine (9) members, four (4) of whom shall be appointed by the governing body of the County, and five (5) by the governing body of the City.  Three (3) members shall be legally qualified, licensed and practicing physicians in Victoria County and shall be approved by the Victoria County Medical Society, one (1) member shall be legally qualified, licensed and practicing dentist in Victoria County and shall be approved by the Victoria County Dental Society, and at least one shall be a Registered Nurse.

  • The Juvenile Board of Victoria County is composed of the county judge, the district judge in Victoria County, and the judge of each county court at law. The board is governed by V.T.C.A. Human Resource Code 152.2411.  The County Clerk serves as clerk.

  • Victoria Navigation Board Commission is governed by Chapter 62, Navigation, Article XVI, Section 59, of the Texas Constitution.   The navigation board includes the members of the Navigation and Canal Commission. The commissioners serve (2) two year terms.
